Retail Store Designer

Our Retail client is looking for a full-time passionate and fearless Retail Store Designer. The position is Hybrid with 2-3 days/week on-site in their SF office. Collaborating with the store design team and cross-functional partners, this position contributes to  the overall quality of each store design to uphold their expectations while meeting cost, schedule, and operational requirements. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable working through the complexities of problem solving for a unique site condition as they are with maintaining a relentless eye for the overall best design solution.  Project types include both new and existing stores.

As a full-time Store Design Contractor, your main role will be managing projects within their lighting program.  These roles and responsibilities may include but not limited to:

Gathering as-built/CAD reference drawing for existing stores 

Kick off Surveyor

Schedule management of Survey

Survey review

Review 360 existing store photo

Kick off Architects and Permit Expeditor

Gather permit due diligence information

Outline schedule and groups per permit due diligence information

Prelim RCP/ Feasibility review, comment and communication

Manage drawing schedule and tracking

Review 100% check set drawing, comment and communication

Review shop drawing, comment and communication

Manage shop drawing schedule and tracking

Manage permit tracking 

Construction administration, including answering RFIs and working through site condition conflicts

Record set management

Folding back record set RCP information into the latest MAPS file 

Additional roles and responsibilities may also include:

Provide planning, interior elevations, and storefront design studies based on their design standards and specific site conditions.  Design for unique conditions as required.  Advocate for the design, ensuring they always put their best foot forward. Assist on special projects as required.

Develop project scope of work including review of codes, tenant criteria, merchandise requirements and any other design elements.

Coordinate closely with Real Estate, Retail Operations, Merchandising and Property Development throughout all stages of the design.  Ensure that the field, merchant, and maintenance needs are addressed. 

Manage outside consultant architects and engineers to ensure project schedules are maintained and documents are accurate for landlord review, permitting, bid and any other required submittals.  

After start of construction, monitor communication between consultants and construction managers to quickly respond to field conditions and/or changes made to projects.  

Check all drawings to be sure they meet design standards and criteria. Coordinate with consultant architects and engineers to incorporate any changes or corrections into the final contract documents.  Ensure that drawings are accurate throughout the project lifecycle to ensure that bid information is correct, and construction can begin on schedule.

Explore the best options to expedite permit and landlord approvals.  Act as primary contact between client and tenant coordinators.  Meet face-to-face as required.  Partner with AOR to track permit approvals to ensure construction starts on schedule.

Bachelor’s Degree in architecture or interior design.

Five to seven years of related experience in Retail Architecture, Retail Design or similar field.

Highly proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite [In-Design, Photoshop, Illustrator].

Experienced with one or more computer visualization tools [SketchUp, Rhino, 3DS MAX].
